Li-ion batteries are said to use a constant current method at the beginning of charging due to their characteristics. Therefore, it continuously checks the terminal voltage while constantly applying the charging current. When the terminal voltage rises to 4.2 volts, the constant voltage circuit is operated from this point to maintain 4.2 volts. Then, the charging current gradually decreases and becomes zero.
Therefore, if it is a proper charger, it will not charge after the actual full charge, even if it is plugged in for a few days. However, the problem is that chargers that do not accurately measure 4.2 volts (especially equipment chargers) are likely to overcharge or undercharge.
In addition, some chargers change from 4 volts to a constant voltage when they are not confident to measure 4.2 volts, and there is a situation where they cannot be fully charged.
Especially in case of overcharging, the lifespan of the lithium-ion battery is said to be rapidly shortened. (4.2 volts is for 1 cell, and 2 cells, that is, doubles in the case of serial connection of 2 units of 1 cell)
